Nightly has us seeing stars…and stripes?
BY SASHA BASANT
Nashville's indie-pop trio kicks off the summer with their new single “American Baby”. Giving fans the nostalgic ‘90s Fourth of July anthem they never knew they needed. Fresh off the road from opening for The Maine, the band wastes no time keeping the momentum going. The release follows closely behind “Blue Jeans”, a single they released in late May of this year, which will also be featured on their upcoming album.
If these last two singles— and their surprise album from October of last year is any indication of what is to come listeners might be in for an all-American indie-pop record. Both tracks encompass cinematic hometown memories of long summers and give listeners a sense of familiarity with Nightly’s signature sound while carrying echoes of influence from The Killers.
“American Baby” teleports listeners to sticky summer skin, melting red, white, and blue popsicles and aimless drives spent chasing the sunset. It’s the kind of track that feels perfectly curated for bonfires at the beach, skies lit with fireworks, and the summer playlist that stays on rotation long after July is over. “American Baby” is beyond a seasonal soundtrack, it embodies the momentary magic of summer in under three minutes.
