Waterparks Unveil New Single “BETTER THAN THERAPY”

Waterparkshave just released the infectious new single “BETTER THAN THERAPY,” the latest effort from their forthcoming album JINX, due July 24th and it has people breaking up with their therapists left and right (trust me). Waterparks began teasing the track earlier this month before debuting the new song in full during their set at Vans Warped Tour D.C.
Frontman Awsten Knight and fans alike have described the new tune as one of the upcoming album’s “loverboy songs” and the yearning is out in full force on this one. The song begins by juxtaposing what it’s like to attend a therapy session vs. being in a committed relationship. At its core, the song conceptualizes that having a partner, despite both of your flaws, can seemingly be better for you than seeing a therapist, with Knight declaring in the post-chorus “I like that you take care of me / Love me so much it’s scaring me / Yeah, you might be the death of me / But you’re better than therapy.” It’s a cheeky, self-aware track, similar to the reflective nature of their last record, but in an entirely different flavor.
Chock full of ad libs and layered harmonies, this is Waterparks at their most refined. And with an addictively catchy pre-chorus and an instrumental that feels almost custom built for a live environment, “BETTER THAN THERAPY” fits perfectly into the rest of the band’s catalogue. Every Waterparks song has a moment that takes your breath away, and this track takes us there in the bridge where Knight softens his voice before the listener is hit with a blazing guitar solo.
Following a slew of label and management changes and even a scrapped album, JINX is the culmination of the last three years in the Waterparks universe and the longest they have ever gone between releasing albums. “BETTER THAN THERAPY” and preceding singles have proven they’re worth the wait, offering a timeless and replayable quality that is often lacking in this scene.
Following the release of JINX, Waterparks will be making an appearance at Vans Warped Tour in Long Beach, California on July 26th and at 97X’s Next Big Thing on September 4th in Clearwater, Florida.
