The Upsides Drop New Single “Say Follow”

by sydney carper

New York indie rockers The Upsides have just released their latest single Say Follow, their second single of 2026, via Dream Wolf Records.

It is a follow up to the May 2026 release Very Bad Kids, and furthers the band’s expansion into a heavier sound while staying true to the melodic style established on their 2024 self-titled debut album.

The track is heavily guitar driven, delving into themes of stress and tension one puts themselves under trying to achieve their goals without asking for help, in a fruitless attempt to preserve one’s pride and ego. The acknowledgment given to the commonly felt need to prove oneself with the repeated “you don’t want it enough”, elevates the song into something that feels both timeless and ubiquitous. The cycle of constantly comparing yourself to others is a universal experience, and The Upsides prove unafraid to explore such emotionally charged concepts, utilizing angsty instrumentals to solidify and bring their points home.

Speaking on the new release, the band shared:

“At its core, it's a song about sorting out what to do with your life. The lyrics are a 'mirror monologue' of the thoughts that come into your head while sorting through these life-altering decisions on which path to follow. And once you do build up the resolve to make a change, feelings of comparison and guilt inevitably often linger from a prior version of yourself. What we feel inherent in this tune is that if you think something is worth chasing, any of the friction you experience on that path is worth it. And the path itself is meaningless without the right people and help around you”.

Say Follow was also released with an accompanying performance based music video available to watch below.
