Piper Connolly has released her music video for “bubble gum with razorblades,” the latest track from her EP she's too much!. At just 15 years old Connolly is still early in her career, having begun releasing music in 2024, but this new project has given her the space to explore a different side of herself. “It's the perfect encapsulation of everything in my life right now,” Piper says of the EP which moves between songs about love, heartbreak, and the freedom of being yourself. “bubblegum with razorblades” brings out one of the EP’s edgier sides, following the frustration of having someone who once had a hold on you finally lose that power.
Throughout the music video, multiple versions of Connolly appears as people around her try to get her ready, doing her makeup and picking out her outfit while she grows increasingly frustrated. “I bite my tongue so hard it bleeds your name / like Bubblegum with razorblades,” she sings, turning the frustration of holding back into a statement of finally letting go. The moving truck and boxes marked “FRAGILE” add another layer to the imagery, echoing the song's lyrics about someone who can no longer get under her skin. By the end of the song it's clear where she stands as she sings, “You don't get to crawl under my skin / not like you used to, no not ever again.”
Across the EP, Connolly says she wants listeners to feel empowered and that there is nothing to fear. With “bubblegum with razor blades” she puts that message into a song about moving forward and refusing to make herself smaller. So fresh into her career, Piper Connolly is already beginning to carve out her own space in the scene, making her an artist worth keeping an eye on as she continues to find her sound.
