Destination Fantasyland - Moody Joody’s New Musical Escape

Nashville's art-pop trio Moody Joody releases their fifth single "Fantasyland” off their debut album Plain Jane – a catchy, toxic promise that feels like romance.  

“Fantasyland” mirrors the illusion you feed yourself to stay in a relationship that's doing more bad than good. The track blends upbeat, high-energy production that almost distracts you from its rose colored lyrics. Much like the song's thematic core, the sonic glimmer hides the reality of the situation.

“Fantasyland” was inspired by a conversation I had with my therapist. I had been caught up in a toxic cycle with an ex and she candidly told me I was living in a “Fantasyland” in regards to thinking the dynamic was going to change. I was still in a place where I was romanticizing this relationship dynamic and this person and who we were as people. One of my favorite things about this song is the double meaning of the phrase “lying in my fantasyland” because it’s both this carefree “oh I’m laying here with my head in the clouds la di da” and also it’s a lie - I’m lying to myself. The song sonically feels that way to me too - this juxtaposition of shimmering, glimmering, fun with a very sarcastic, rose-colored glasses lyric.” says co-lead vocalist Kayla Hall.

The trio first debuted this track in early July at their sold-out show in New York City, turning the show into a dance party getting down with the crowd. With “Fantasyland” and their other recently released singles "Suburbia" and “Little Blue House, ”the group has set the stage for their upcoming album. Diving deep into the messy growing pains of stepping into adult reality. 

Their first album Plain Jane is expected to release October 30th via Finish Records. Moody Joody has recently announced that they will be playing alongside The Maine once more at 8123 Fest in Mesa, Arizona in January of 2027.
