MALCOM TODD IS “DOING IT AGAIN” WITH STEVE LACY

by athira Menon

The multifaceted singer/songwriter is releasing music with your favorite artists.

Malcolm Todd officially released his sophomore album, Do That Again, on June 5th, and this new project is giving us a glimpse into how he earned himself a devoted fanbase, a permanent place in indie/R&B/pop, and sold-out shows.

Following the singer/songwriter’s sudden success with the virality of the song “Earrings” on TikTok, he released “I Saw Your Face“, then announced the 13-track album shortly after. It was incredible timing, or maybe just a happy coincidence.

It doesn’t take several listens of Do That Again to hear the usual Malcom Todd personal songwriting and unique instrumentals. The album’s title track, “Do That Again,” is especially notable for featuring production, guitar, bass, and backing vocals from Steve Lacy. For Todd, whose music has long been linked to the Grammy-winning artist’s style, the collaboration marks a full-circle moment. In a recent interview with Interview Magazine, Todd addressed this comparison that has followed him throughout his career. He says he embraces it, calling Lacy his hero and crediting him as one of the artists who inspired him to pursue music.’ “All right, let us be individual people,” but I understand it.... I take it as a badge of honor, and I’m confident enough in my music to not feel threatened by it.” (Russel 2026)

With Do That Again, Todd delivers another raw, authentic record, building on the sound that first brought him attention, while incorporating his heroes to mark the milestone.
