GIRL TONES AND PETER MCPOLAND ROCK THE TRUMAN IN KANSAS CITY
BY LILLIAN HAMMER
OPENER: GIRL TONES
The March 10 stop of the Big Lucky Tour at The Truman in Kansas City delivered an early highlight with Girl Tones setting a high bar as the opening act for Peter McPoland.
Girl Tones went on stage around 8 p.m. and commanded the crowd from the moment they began their first song. Musically, the band delivered a tight and confident performance. Their sound translated cleanly in a live setting with an overwhelming sense of cohesion.
What stood out most was their ability to command attention in a packed venue where many attendees were primarily there for the headliner. Frontwoman Kenzie Crowe commanded the crowd and successfully encouraged movement throughout the whole set. She was frequently asking for the KC stop to be the first show on tour with a mosh pit, although this didn’t happen the crowd didn’t stop moving until their set was over—the band established a commanding presence that isn’t typically felt in an opener’s role.
