WAXAHATCHEE: OUTSIDE FESTIVAL DAY 2
BY EMMALEE SULLIVAN
After an hour-long thunderstorm, Waxahatchee finally took the stage, opening her set with “3 Sisters.” The moody piano paired perfectly with her soft, emotive vocals, which carried subtle traces of her country accent. Her voice struck a balance between control and rawness—somewhere between Julien Baker and Kacey Musgraves.
A few songs in, “Crowbar” sparked movement across the muddy field, with fans dancing freely, unbothered by the mess. Waxahatchee’s lyrical brilliance was front and center in this track, with standout lines like:
“You can take it pretty far on a prayer that's pale and synthetic” and
“Bending my crowbar with tension that’s telekinetic.”
Her soft country, almost granola-esque sound resonated even more deeply as the sun began to rise behind the stage—casting a warm, golden light after the chaos of the storm. The moment felt cinematic, perfectly mirroring the emotional highs and lows of her set.
