LAUNDRY DAY’S ‘TIME OF YOUR LIFE TOUR’ IN DC

BY EMMALEE SULLIVAN

On November 13th, Pop Indie group Laundry Day performed their sold out night at The Atlantis in Washington, DC. Their newest album Earworm had come out just around a month before the show date, yet fans screamed every word to their newest songs including “Aperol Spritz” which is a word heavy rap tune.

Having been a Laundry Day fan previously, I was quite excited to see what they could do as headliners after having seen them as openers previously. Let’s just say they did not disappoint.

Openers WHATMORE warmed up the crowd with an energetic set. All members were either singing, playing guitar, or bass at one point or another. Even if they weren’t singing, their members were actively involving the fans in the songs with interactions. At one point in the set two members joined the crowd in a mosh pit where fans were not only dancing, but singing the words as well.

After their set, I couldn’t help but note the pre-show playlist was not your typical playlist. My personal favorite was Worldwide by Big TIme Rush which I had only ever heard live. The songs also included some of their popular parodies.

When the lights dimmed, their intro was sporadic as each member popped out one at a time to the beginning of ‘R U READY?’. Once all the members emerged on stage, fans were ecstatic and screaming, indicating they were in fact ready for the time of their lives.

After photographing the set I moved from the barricade to the back, quick to realize that the same energy was at the back as the front. Everyone in that room was so excited to be there, screaming the songs, dancing, and just enjoying the night.

My personal favorite song BENT came on and fans started swaying their arms back and forth only adding to the energy that was already in the room. It is rare that I think an artist's newest work is their best, but Earworm is 100% Laundry Day’s strongest work.

It is also rare to see a fan base be extremely genuine with a band that has a large online personality, but Laundry Day fans were extremely genuine and kind towards the band and other fans. The room genuinely felt like a family had come together to celebrate, and I’m sure the band felt it as well. Drummer and singer Sawyer made it his mission to say thank you for taking time out of your day in between every song.

After the night ended, fans stayed outside the venue waiting to meet the band with gifts and video ideas in mind. Even though it was 30 degrees and 11pm, all the members came out and met every fan out there. There’s no denying this band is talented, but it's evident that they truly love doing what they do.

The next night they ended the Time Of Your Life Tour in NYC with a sold out night at Webster Hall. The band showed extreme gratitude to everyone who showed up and they are still posting about how much they miss the tour even just a week after it ended.

As a fangirl, it would be wrong for me to gatekeep this amazing band from you and all they have to offer but I know Earworm is their big break even after great albums prior. If you are looking for something unique from musicians that care about their craft and their listeners, do NOT skip a Laundry Day song.
